Kindergarten News
Kindergarten is a happenin' place! We are happy to be celebrating a new year. We are meeting new friends, getting to know our teachers, and practicing our names with play-doh. We will be marching through the alphabet with proper letter formation, identifying the letter's sound and recognizing it in words.
Each week we have a "star" featured letter of the week. Letter show & tell on Wednesdays is the highlight of the week followed by our magazine search for items that begin with that sound. Letters we have covered are proudly on display at the front of our room.
In math we are pattern experts as we continue to search for patterns every where we go. We are pretty good at making our own 2 and 3 piece patterns with everything from buttons to popscicle sticks.
In Religion we are listening to Bible stories and learning that God loves us. We are learning to be more like Jesus each day.
Here are some daily reminders;
**Snack drink - You must send a snack drink each day unless you have ordered snack milk.
The next order will be in your class newsletter.
**Folders-please return the folder in your child's bookbag each day.
This is our main form of communication from school to home.
Don't forget to thank your "mail carrier" for bringing it home each day !
**Dismissal- please send a note if your child is going in a different dismissal line at the end of the day.
Classroom Rules for Behavior
The kingergartners wrote a set of five class rules during the first week of school. We are trying very hard to follow the guidelines we made. Each morning we begin our day in the "green" light.
When we break a rule, we are given 2 verbal warnings. If it happens again, then we must move our clothespin to the "yellow" light-caution, warning, be careful - and take a 2-4 minute time out. If when we return to the activity we show the correct behavior, we are asked to return our pin to the green light. Anyone still in the yellow light at centertime then loses their freetime for that day. A yellow light is then marked on the take home folder . Mrs. C. speaks to each yellow lighter before dismissal as to what happened, what to do next time and how can we change ? Red lights are a bit more serious. These include hitting. biting, spitting, kicking or blatant disrespect to others. These students cannot move back to the green light for that day . Mrs. C. then sends a note that must be returned the following day, signed by parent(s)or she will call home to discuss what happened with the parents. This student also does not receive center time that afternoon.
If the entire class stays in the green light all day -we have a Smartie Party ! Yahoo!!!!
