“Behavior Buddies”
Pre-K
Behavior Management
The use of the “Behavior Buddy” system is to monitor negative behavior and keep
open communication between parents, teachers and students.
Each child in the pre-k will have a “behavior buddy”. This is a paper person cut
out with your child’s name on it. In our classroom there are three larger
buddies one blue, one yellow and one red. Everyone will begin each day under the
blue buddy. After repeated warnings about unacceptable behavior, the student
will move their buddy to the yellow. If the teacher feels that the child has
changed the behavior, moving back to the blue is possible. Occasionally a child
will continue the negative behavior, causing him or her to move to the red. When
this happens, the student will be asked to sit at the nearest table during the
lesson, so as not to disturb others.
Each day on your child’s folder there will be a sheet with either a blue, yellow
or red mark. If your child has a blue mark, then they had no problems throughout
the day. If your child moved to yellow, they should be able to explain why. The
reason for the yellow is to encourage discussion between a parent and child
about the negative behavior. If your child came home with red there will be a
note sent home explaining the situation. Please check your child’s folder each
day.
This behavior management program is to help the children learn about following
rules in school.
If your child has to move to yellow every now and then, it is not the end of the
world. Preschool is a year long process and we are learning all about school and
rules.
Please note the behavior buddy system is not appropriate for an infraction of a
serious nature such as hitting or fighting, as this will result in removal from
the situation and a note or phone call home.
Blue *No Problems!
Yellow *Warning (please discuss situation with your child)
Red *Note Home
In addition to the Behavior buddy system our classroom will also have a good
behavior chart. This chart will be used to display stickers that are given to
reinforce correct behavior. On the chart there will be certain marks that will
indicate *prize*, that means the child will be able to pick out of the prize
box.
This is a way we can reinforce and encourage correct behavior.
